Urban Resorts

Why have I always loved resort life?

Remember Dirty Dancing, the mega phone, beach volleyball courts, the talent show, the staff houses, and all of the family outdoor activity? #swoon

I love resorts for the bonds that are created over sports and leisure activities. They are a place that creates connections - whether people to people or people to nature. A sense of respect and appreciation for the natural world is built and environmental stewardship is inspired.

Throughout my life I figured resorts were like residential camps for families. They kind of are, however, I am also realizing more and more that in order to inspire and support people to live healthy and active lives on a daily basis, I need to view city parks and recreational spaces as our urban resorts. They are the spaces where we can have a connection to each other and connection to nature close to home. A place where respect and appreciation for our local environment is fostered on a daily basis.

Happy happy birthday mama! I hope it has been a wonderful day with a great flight, knowing that we’ll all get to be together for the weekend. Thank you for teaching me to always live life, to do what is needed to be done, and to do it with great ideas, gumption, logic, and creativity. xox
