Between this touching story of a boy and his dog, various heartfelt Canadian moments at the Olympics, and the absolute thoughtfulness that surrounded valentines day, this week has me full of love, gratitude, and joy.
Furnishing an office…
We’re heading to IKEA today to pick-up lamps for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2014 official draw. The lamps are for the desks in the media centre.
While we’re at IKEA, we’ll also be picking-up my new office furniture. I am a huge believer that productive work is assisted by being in an environment that is conducive to the work requirements. The vision for my office is to create a welcoming space that encourages collaborative, quality, and productive work.
Round table - ability to host working meetings of up to four people. This way we don’t need to take the huge boardroom for smaller meetings. It will also enable us to host operational meetings more frequently.
Comfy chairs - a comfortable environment for meetings is critical. When people feel comfortable, they are more willing to share ideas and knowledge…. all things that help create incredible work!
Storage - this is critical. I can’t wait to label the drawers and have so much work neatly organized and accessible. An organized and clean office are often signs of an organized and clean brain!
Lighting - can’t wait to have nice lighting! I am lucky to have a solarium-like office. The natural light creates a great energy. However, during the winter months, it is key to have light past 4:00pm!
Framed pictures - looking forward to framing my quotes and photos. A more personalized office will feel so much more inviting.
TV monitor (not shown) - getting a TV in my office will be great…. it will be useful for all of the virtual meetings and interviews, as well as finally looking at stadium site plans without having to squint!
Our operations manager suggested a couch and beer fridge would be ideal. Ha. On the “I’ll consider it” list.
These muffins are amazing! They’re gluten-free with bananas and applesauce instead of sugar and oil. The secret to taste success is lots of cinnamon and nutmeg :)
